Pythons played their 2026-27 home opener on Sunday as they welcomed Coventry to Chelmsford and looking to start the season off strong.

First period saw Phoenix take an early penalty in the opening minutes, and Pythons getting the player advantage to kick off the game. This was not wasted as Sumeg-Howard found the back of the net on the Power Play and gave Pythons the early lead. Pythons continued to find opportunities at the net and nearing the end of the first, Dadd found another to increase the lead by two. A strong first period had the Pythons leading 2-0.

Early into the second, Phoenix found an opening, and netted their first of the game in the opening minutes, denying the Pythons shutout. Phoenix determined to pull back the score, increased their SOG throughout the second. Pythons held strong defensively, and worked good plays up the ice looking to get the goal back. Despite outshooting the Phoenix for the second period in a row, they couldn’t find another through the second and the period ended still leading 2-1.

With the battle ramping up, a couple of penalties for the Pythons to open the third period saw Phoenix with the advantage, but Pythons shut them down well and Dadd found her second of the game short handed off a feed from Quilter to reinstate their two goal lead. Pythons shut down Phoenix from any further opportunities at the net for the remainder of the third and the buzzer ended with the Pythons winning 3-1 with a strong performance for their home opener.
